Sound Maps

Sonic Constellations features geo-referenced historical sonic maps, created through ArcGIS and StoryMaps software, that will illustrate where musical performances took place in and beyond wartime and interwar Paris, as well as how music and sound travelled through geographical space over time. These sonic-historical maps will provide spatial-geographical visualizations that will dovetail and work in tandem with the project’s social network maps to provide the website’s users with multiple ways of understanding how musicians, scores, recordings, and knowledge about music and sound traveled between and held meaning for people in this time period.
